SCC Alpha Chi collects for Ft. Knox troops

-A A +A

This past fall semester, students of the St. Catharine College Kentucky Mu chapter of the Alpha Chi National Honor Society collected books, washcloths and towels for soldiers and their families at Ft. Knox. Members of Alpha Chi raised funds for this project by participating in a bake sale and concession sale at campus basketball games.
Student member and veteran Jennifer H. Craig worked with students, staff and faculty of St. Catharine College to collect and purchase hundreds of books for readers of all ages to have available for the returning soldiers and their families with help from Alpha Chi Advisor Monica Unseld.
Student member Carlotta Brussell coordinated a towel and washcloth drive, working with the Marion County High School ROTC, other public schools, local church and civic groups in both Washington and Marion counties and the Dominican Sisters of Peace. Over 500 towels and wash cloth sets were collected and delivered to Fort Knox on Dec. 7 for the soldiers returning to their barracks.
In appreciation for these efforts, a certificate of appreciation on behalf of the 6th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment was presented to the St. Catharine College Kentucky Mu Chapter of Alpha Chi.
Upon hearing of the chapter’s activities and the plaque, a representative of the Alpha Chi National Office stated: “Thanks Kentucky Mu Chapter, for a great example of what an Alpha Chi chapter can do to make a difference. Congratulations on a successful service project!”
