The Marion County Lady soccer teams recently held their annual awards banquet at Marion County High School. Several players received awards for their play on the soccer field or for work in the classroom.
The Lady Knights held their banquet last week.
The "Knight" Award and the Best Offensive Player Award went to Noel Obata. Ann Thomas Daugherty received the Best Defensive Player Award, while Sara Obata was given the Coaches Award. Colleen Rakes took home the 110 Percent Award. There were four Most Improved Awards handed out, with Taylor Simpson receiving the JV Most Improved, Miranda Bradshaw getting the Offensive Most Improved Award, Sara Tucker taking home the Defensive Most Improved Award, and Abby Turner collecting the Overall Most Improved Award.
For academic awards, four Lady Knights received the Team Scholar Award. Those players included Sara Tucker (4.2 GPA), Madison Avritt (4.0 GPA), Miranda Bradshaw (4.0 GPA) and Bailey Spalding (4.0 GPA).
Four awards were given to the Lady Knights who were captains during the season, with Ann Thomas Daugherty, Sara Obata, Colleen Rakes and Bailey Spalding each getting a Captain Award.
Boys soccer
The Marion County Knights soccer team hosted their annual postseason awards banquet recently. Several awards were given out including one voted on by senior members of the team.
The best offensive award went to Satchel Tatum while the best defensive award went to Trevor Hood. The Colin Beach offseason award went to Jake Smith and the most improved award went to Chase Lancaster. Alex Smith took home the 110 percent award as well as the Knight Award that the senior members of the team voted on. Joey Costello was given the coaches award and Jordan Mattingly was awarded the best mentor award.
Nathan Shewmaker, Jordan Mattingly, Michael Costello and Satchel Tatum were each given captains awards and Curt Spalding (4.1 GPA) and Joey Costello (4.0 GPA) were awarded as team scholars. Jordan Mattingly and Alex Smith were named all region players and Michael Costello, Satchel Tatum, Nathan Shewmaker and Joey Costello were named all district players with Joey Costello being named the most valuable player.
Satchel Tatum, Michael Costello, Joey Costello, Alex Smith, Chase Lancaster, Jonah Gillespie and Curt Spalding were named to the academic all-state first-team. Jordan Mattingly, Brandon Knopp, Trevor Hood and Ryan Brady were academic all-state honorable mentions.
