Super Bowl party treats

-A A +A
By Susan Lowery

If a Super Bowl party is in your future, you might want to try one of these recipes.  The first is an old one, and has been traditional for football games for many years, Buffalo Chicken Wings.  This is the official recipe put out by Frank’s Hot Sauce, and it’s really good.
The next two dishes are dips, one hot and one cold, but both are super easy and a little out of the ordinary.   The Jalapeno Dip takes just a couple minutes to mix up in a food processor or blender, and is always a hit.  If you like things really hot and spicy, substitute a jar of salsa for the stewed tomatoes.  It’s great with chips or fresh veggies.
The E Z Tex-Mex Dip uses canned tamales and chili and may sound strange, but I think you’ll like it.  Cut corn tortillas in wedges and fry till crisp in hot oil to serve along with it for a real treat.

Franks’s Original Buffalo Chicken Wings
2 1/2 lbs. chicken wings, split and tips discarded
1/2 c. Frank’s Original REDHOT Cayenne Pepper Sauce (or more to taste)
1/3 c. butter or margarine, melted
Zesty Blue Cheese Dip
Celery sticks

Deep fry, bake, broil or grill wings till cooked and crispy.  Drain.  In large bowl, combine RedHot sauce and butter.  Toss wings in sauce to coat completely.  Serve with Zesty Blue Cheese Dip and celery.  Makes 24-30 individual pieces.

Zesty Blue Cheese Dip
1/2 c. blue cheese salad dressing
1/4 c. sour cream
2 t. Frank’s RedHot sauce
Combine all ingredients; mix well.  If desired, garnish with crumbled blue cheese.  Makes 3/4 cup.

Jalapeno Dip
2 (8oz) pkgs. cream cheese, softened
1 can (15oz) stewed tomatoes, drained
2-4 jalapeno peppers, seeded and finely chopped
In food processor or blender combine cream cheese and tomatoes.  Blend until smooth.  Mix in chopped jalapenos by hand.  Refrigerate.

E Z Tex-Mex Dip
1 (15 oz) can tamales, drained
1 (15oz) can chili with beans
2 c. Monterey Jack cheese, diced or shredded
1 (4oz) can chopped green chilies, drained
1 onion, diced small
1/4 t. hot pepper sauce

Chopped fresh cilantro, green onions for garnish
Remove and discard paper wrappers from tamales.  In bowl, mash tamales with a fork.  Add chili, cheese, green chilies, onion and hot pepper sauce.  Mix well and put in greased baking dish.  Bake at 325 degrees, uncovered, for 30-35 minutes.  Garnish with cilantro and green onions.  Serve warm with chips or veggies.  Makes about 6 cups.
