Superintendent candidates announced

The Marion County Board of Education has selected three candidates to interview for the superintendent's position.

They are Chuck Hamilton, Mercer County superintendent, Steven Cleo Meadows, Bath County assistant superintendent in Owingsville and William Phil Rison, Montgomery County assistant superintendent in Mount Sterling,

According to Board Vice Chairman Ed Hacker, interviews will begin Monday, May 2. Meadows will be interviewed Monday at 6 p.m. at the Marino County Board of Education office, Hamilton will be interviewed Tuesday and Rison will be interviewed Thursday. The board will be having dinner with the candidates at the board office before the interview begins.

Below is the candidates’ biographical information:

CHUCK HAMILTON

Chuck Hamilton currently serves as the Mercer County Schools superintendent and has been in that position since 2009.  Prior to that, he served as the Marion County Schools finance officer from 2005-2009.  He was principal of Marion County High School from 2000-2005 and principal of St. Charles Middle School from 1995-2000. He taught math in Nelson County from 1994-1995 and prior to that, from 1988-1994, he taught math at Marion County High School, where he also spent one of those years as an assistant principal.

STEVEN CLEO MEADOWS

Steven Meadows currently serves as the Bath County Schools assistant superintendent, a position he has held since 2010. From 2004-2008, he was a business teacher in the Bath County Schools before being named the district's personnel director, a position held until 2010.  From 1984 to 2004, he was on active duty with the United States Air Force, where he held numerous leadership positions.

WILLIAM PHILLIP RISON

Phil Rison has served as the assistant superintendent in the Montgomery County Schools since 2008. He was the director of operations in Montgomery County from 2003-2007 after leaving Montgomery County High School, where he was the assistant principal from 1997-2003. Prior to that, from 1995-1997, he taught in the Estill County school district. He was assistant principal at Harrison County High School in 1994 and taught from 1987-1994 at Montgomery County High School, where he also was the attendance director. He began teaching in Paris Independent Schools, from 1986-1987.
