Marion County Superintendent Dr. Chuck Hamilton made several recommendations regarding the school calendar during Tuesday night's school board meeting, including the possible dismissal of school if the Marion County High School Lady Knights make it to the second round of the KHSAA Girls Sweet Sixteen basketball tournament.

If the Lady Knights travel to Bowling Green for the state tournament, which is highly likely, their first game would be Wednesday, March 13. However, Hamilton recommended to the board that school should remain in session that day. If the Lady Knights win, they would play again on Friday, March 15, and Hamilton recommends school be dismissed that day.

According to Hamilton, he's trying to be fair with his recommendation.

"We have over 3,000 students and 480 employees... I'm trying to create a balance... We won't have 3,000 students go," Hamilton said.

Hamilton also recommended that the board consider using Monday, May 20 and Tuesday, May 21 as two make-up days for when school was out for weather and poor road conditions.

The board did not vote on any calendar amendments at Tuesday night's meeting. Any amendments to the school calendar will be approved at the board's March 12 board meeting.
