The Marion County High School boys and girls golf teams hosted the Marion County Invitational at Rosewood Golf Club Saturday. Both teams struggled in the event and finished no better than fifth place.
“I’m not sure if the team was a little amped up or if they were nervous since we were the host school of the invitational, but we didn’t play up to our ability,” Head Coach Chad Spalding said. “Taylor Howard was the bright spot of the tournament, for both the boys and girls.”
On the boys side, Joseph Elder shot a team best 78, followed by a 91 by Casey Lee. Blair Gorley shot a 93, Aaron Hamilton shot a 94, and Logan Medley rounded out the scoring for the Knights with a 97. For the tournament, the Knights shot a total of 357, which landed them in sixth place.
The girls team faired just a bit better and finished in fifth place. Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Amy Brown who shot an 84. Olivia Carrico and Taylor Howard each shot an 85 while Brianna Reynolds finished with a 114. The Lady Knights tallied up 368 shots as a team.
Spalding also stated that the tournament was a major success and would not have been possible without the cooperation of Rosewood and the support of many sponsors.
