Tennis team thumps opponents

The Marion County Knights tennis team had a strong week, winning all three of their matches. The Knights defeated Bethlehem 5-0 on the road Monday, Washington County 5-0 at home on Tuesday, and Campbellsville 4-1 on the road Thursday.
“I am really impressed with the improvement of the young players on the team, especially Jonah Gillespie, Michael Spalding, and Timothy Murphy,” Head Coach Chase Burdette said.
Burdette hopes to continue the trend of improving throughout the season and keep winning matches. Marion County will not be back in action again until April 11 at Taylor County.

At Campbellsville...
Marion County defeated Campbellsville 4-1 on Thursday of last week on the road.  In singles action, Alex Spalding beat M. Milby in two sets (6-0) and (6-1).  Ryker Cassidy defeated C. Kidwell in two sets (6-0) and (6-0).  Timothy Murphy won his match against C. Wilson 8-6 and Ryker Cassidy beat Campbellsville’s B. Fitzgerald 8-0.
In doubles action, Jacob Burdette and Noah Swencki easily handled C. Milby and L. Coffey in two sets (6-0) and (6-0). The pair of Michael Spalding and Jonah Gillespie also defeated their opponents in two sets (6-0) and (6-0).

At Home vs. Washington County....
Marion County continued to shine on Tuesday when they took on Washington County at home. The Knights tennis team defeated their opponents 5-0 and no match went more than two sets.  
In singles action, Alex Spalding beat Tyler Beam (6-0) and (6-1). Ryker Cassidy won his match against Chris Carrico in two sets (6-1) and (6-0). Timothy Murphy also won by a score of 8-0 against Washington County’s Ray Witten.
In doubles action, Jacob Burdette and Noah Swencki defeated the Washington County team of Carrico and Witten (6-0) and (6-0), while the team of Michael Spalding and Jonah Gillespie beat the duo of Beam and Royalty in two sets (6-1) and (6-3).

At Bethlehem...
The Marion County Knights tennis team started off the week with a 5-0 win against Bethlehem on the road Monday of last week.  
In singles action, Alex Spalding took on Bethlehem’s Barrett Greenwell and won the match in two sets (6-2) and (6-0). Marion County’s Ryker Cassidy beat Riley Coots in two sets (6-2) and (6-2). Jonah Gillespie played Adam Rogers and took the game 8-6.
In doubles action, the Marion County duo of Jacob Burdette and Noah Swencki defeated the pair of Coots and Suertes in two sets (6-0) and (6-0). Teammates Michael Spalding and Jonah Gillespie won their match against Bethlehem’s Winebrenner and Rogers in two sets (6-1) and (6-1).
