Three Marion County High School girls' soccer players earned regular season All-Region honors recently.

Erica Essex, Sabrina Tom and Hillary Payne add the honor to their already impressive resumes.

Essex earned All-District team honors during the district tournament before adding first team All-Region.

"She's the definition of a leader," Head Coach Neil Payne said. "She's going to be a tough player to lose. A lot of players are going to have to step up to fill her shoes."

Tom is a returning offensive threat for the Lady Knights and a second team All-Region player. Payne said Tom's number of goals were down this season because defenses were able to focus on her more than the previous season. He feels like she adjusted well to the change.

"I'm expecting big offensive production from Sabrina next year," Payne said. "We need to get her to shoot more."

Payne makes her second All-Region team appearance. Last year she claimed first team All-Region honors as a goalie, setting the Marion County record for shutouts. This season Payne earns second team All-Region honors playing outside of the goal.

Coach Payne moved Hillary out of the goal because she provided aggressiveness on defense the Lady Knights weren't otherwise getting.

"She's had a phenomenal year," Payne said.

The girls' soccer banquet is set for Nov. 11. A time had not determined as of press time.
