The Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission has approved a $650 grant request for the Heart of Kentucky Quilt Show. The commissioners unanimously approved the request during their Oct. 8 meeting.

Commissioner Tom Lund was not present at the meeting.

Lizzie Spalding, the Marion County Extension agent for family and consumer sciences, made the request on behalf of the Marion County Extension Homemakers.

Commission Chairman Brad Lanham noted that the quilt show is held in conjunction with the Kentucky Bluegrass Music Kickoff, which is hosted by the Kentucky Fellowship of Musicians. Lanham is chairman of the fellowship of musicians.

Spalding pointed out that the Homemakers have come up with some ideas to turn the quilt show into a two-day event.

On Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, quilts will be on display at businesses in downtown Lebanon, and a quilt display may be set up at the Marion County Heritage Center (located in the old Marion County Courthouse). On Saturday, Jan. 26, the competitive quilt show will be on display at Marion County High School, and heritage talks and demonstrations will also be held Saturday at the high school.
