Junior Brooks Divine won the 110-meter hurdles for the second meet in a row, and senior Scott Hunt took the top spot in the 400-meter dash in the second straight meet when the Marion County track teams competed Saturday in LaRue County.
"We are expecting big things from those two guys," Coach Keith Brown said.
Full results from the LaRue County meet will be in next week's issue.
Junior Brooks Divine had decided not to participate in the pole vault event at LaRue County prior to making the trip. Instead, he was planning to participate in events that would make up the decathlon, according to Brown. On Divine's second attempt during the high jump, he came down awkwardly off the mat, and landed on his back and possibly his head. According to Brown, the trainer on site said that Divine may have sustained a slight concussion. The Marion County coaching staff decided to hold Divine out of any further events that day.
"We didn't feel we had to prove anything, so we held Brooks out for the remainder of the meet," Brown said.
Divine was evaluated by Marion County High School trainer Jennifer May on Monday. His status for the team's March 31 meet at Central Hardin was unclear as of press time.
Last Thursday, Divine won the 110-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles and the pole vault Thursday at Green County. His teammate, Hunt won the 400-meter dash, topping his closest opponent by nearly three seconds.
They weren't the only Knights and Lady Knights who placed at the meet.
Justin Dawson was sixth the 110-meter hurdles in 19.78 seconds. Divine completed the course in 16.29 seconds. Dawson also competed in the 300-meter hurdles with Divine. Divine completed this race in 42.64 seconds while Dawson nabbed another sixth place finish with a time of 47.14 seconds. Divine was the only Marion County participant in the pole vault field, and cleared 12 feet, a full three feet more than his closest opponent.
Sophomores Trevor Hood and Ryan Brady ran alongside Scott Hunt in the 400-meter dash. Hood ran the course in 59.24 seconds, good for fourth place, and Brady finished tied for eighth with a time of 1:04.74. Hunt had a time of 53.94 seconds.
Overall the boys team finished in fourth place overall with 76.5 points while the girls team earned 50 points for fifth place overall.
"I was extremely happy with the results from Green County," Brown said. "Our kids went out and competed hard which is what I expect each time out. Our young team just needs a little time to mature."
