Three Lady Knights named all-region

By Jessica Veatch and Josh Veatch

Three Marion County Lady Knights have received invitations recently to try out for the Kentucky squad in the annual Kentucky/Indiana all-star game sponsored by the Lions Eye Foundation. The tryouts will be held on March 23-24 at Georgetown College.
Last season, Marion County’s Bre Elder played in the game. This year, the game will once again be played in Freedom Hall on June 14, and will travel to the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis the following night.
Makayla Epps, Kyvin Goodin-Rogers and Logan Powell were each selected to try out for the team. Epps leads the team with 23.3 points per game and is shooting 62 percent from the floor and 74 percent from the free throw line this year.  Goodin-Rogers is leading the team with 7.5 rebounds per game and is averaging 12.2 points per game. Powell is averaging 10.2 points per game, and is just behind Goodin-Rogers with 7.3 rebounds per game. Both Goodin-Rogers and Powell have more than 75 steals on the season.
These same three players were also picked to the 5th region’s all season team.  Epps and Goodin-Rogers were unanimous selections, gathering in the maximum possible 17 votes each. Powell was selected to the team with 13 votes. Epps was also voted as the 5th region player of the year and Lady Knights Head Coach Trent Milby was voted as the 5th region coach of the year.
“Those three deserve it,” Milby said. “They have had great seasons and to be named all-region says something about them.”
Milby went on to say that he felt one more of his players should have made the list.
“Patrice should have made it too, but it’s very hard for coaches to vote for four players on the same team,” he said. “I think being 30-0 and ranked sixth in America deserved four, but sometimes politics comes into it and it’s not right.  There’s nothing we can do about it. I feel that we have four of the top 15 players in the region. Patrice will get her education paid for, and that’s all that matters at the end of the day.”
