Kentucky veterans have the option of having their driver's license imprinted with a "Veteran" designation, however, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has reported that there has been some confusion about the veterans license.
Veterans who wish to have the veteran designation on their license must present form DD214 when renewing their license at their local circuit clerk's office. DD214 is the Department of Defense form that verifies military service.
The Department of Transportation noted that the veteran's license are not free. Veterans who wish to have this license much still pay the $20 license renewal fee.
However, veterans who renewed their licenses between July 12 and Sept. 24 can obtain a replacement license without paying the standard $12 fee for a duplicate license. This waiver is for veterans only, and the waiver expires Dec. 31, 2012.
Veterans who have not yet renewed their licenses may obtain a veterans license for the standard $20 renewal fee. Veterans who wish to obtain a license with the Veteran designation before their renewal date can do so by paying the $12 duplicate license fee.
