Since the baseball team started using a public address system in 2000, Ham Mattingly has been the only announcer the team and fans have heard. Mattingly became affiliated with the baseball team when current Head Coach Chad Spalding assumed his coaching duties in 1997. Mattingly's son, Joseph, along with a couple of his friends, Kerry Gorley and Alan Tungate, joined the team as seventh graders that year and that is what got Mattingly starting to attend home games. "I started going to home games that year, even though my son never entered a game that year," he said.
