Windstream upgrades are coming

Some Windstream customers in Marion County should see improvements in the next month, and others will see improvements during the first part of 2014, according to Windstream spokesman Scott Morris.
The upgrades to be completed in the next month will affect about 47 percent of Windstream customers in Marion County, although Morris added that about half of those customers are not having any issues.
By the end of the first quarter of 2014, another 35 percent of Windstream customers in Marion County will be upgraded, he said.
“We have spent a little over $3 million in Marion County in the last three years on the local network,” Morris said.
Windstream is still looking for ways to upgrade its service for the remaining 18 percent of customers, who are in the most remote areas served by the company’s Lebanon exchange.
Morris added that Windstream has applied for money from the Connect America Fund, which was set up to help bring broadband service to rural areas. That does not guarantee Windstream will be approved for funding, but they are seeking ways to upgrade their service.
