The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for portions of Indiana and Kentucky, including Marion County. The weather advisory is in effect until 2 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1.
According to the weather service, widespread and intense snow showers are expected late this afternoon in southern Indiana and west central Kentucky. Intense bursts of snowfall could produce accumulations between one-half inch and two inches along with wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour.
The weather service noted that 1-2 inches are expected east of I-65.
Interstate corridors will likely be affected, according to the weather service. Motorists should anticipate rapidly deteriorating road conditions between 6 p.m. and midnight tonight, Jan. 31.
The weather service is also projecting additional light snowfall through Feb. 6.
