Logan Votaw, recent graduate from West Marion Elementary, has had one amazing year. He began the school year by telling his mom that since it was going to be his last year at WMES, he was going out with a bang. He was invited to join the Jr Beta Club (WMES is the only elementary in Marion County with a Beta Club) where he participated in club meetings and in February, went to the state convention. It was at that state competition where Votaw made good on his promise to “go out with a bang.” He had made a bracelet from an old fork and entered it in the handmade jewelry competition. He placed third - the first elementary from Marion County to ever place at state - and was invited to attend the national competition. Votaw, his family, and Kevin Durham, the school’s Beta Club sponsor, all made the trip to Mobile, Ala., for Jr. Beta National Convention June 15, where he entered his bracelet in competition. This time, he really made a bang by placing second. Yes, Logan has made quite a bang, and in doing so, made quite a name for Marion County and WMES. Watch out St. Charles Middle School. Votaw will be there in the fall!
