The local Wreaths Across America event will be held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Lebanon National Cemetery.
Mike Andrews, one of the event organizers, said they have close to 500 wreaths so far, and he added that Lebanon Middle School raised more than $1,000 for this event.
?They do well every year for us,? Andrews said.
Wreaths Across America started 21 years ago, when wreaths were donated to be placed on headstones at Arlington National Cemetery. This year, national organizers are anticipating that more than 400,000 wreaths will be placed on headstones at more than 750 locations by more than 150,000 volunteers.
During the ceremony, wreaths will be placed to remember all soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines who served to honor their sacrifices and teach younger generations about the high cost of freedom. Specially designated wreaths for the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine and POW/MIA will be placed on memorials during the ceremony.
Donations are still being accepted. They can also be dropped off at the Clothes Connection (the Laundromat behind McDonalds) or mailed to Wreaths Across America, c/o Mike and Judy Andrews, 185 Shreve Lane, Lebanon KY 40033.
Checks should be made out to Wreaths Across America. Wreaths are $10 apiece.
Wreaths Across America is a 501(c)3 organization, and all donations are tax deductible. All donations will be used to purchase wreaths.
