  • Former shoebox recipient shares impact of a simple gift

    Springfield Baptist Church, 305 Lincoln Park Road, Springfield., will host an Operation Christmas Child kick-off event for Washington and Marion County residents at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12.  The event’s guest speaker will be former shoebox recipient Timur Nesbitt.
    Nesbitt grew up an orphan in Central Asia. At age 13, he received an Operation Christmas Child shoe box – the first gift he had ever received. Inside the box was a yo-yo, candy, school supplies, a letter and photo from a boy in Texas who packed the box.

Saturday registration is 10 a.m. Morning session special speaker is Rev. Barnam. Dinner guest will be a comedian. Sunday at 11:30 a.m. is Women’s Day. The guest is Rev. Diane Brown.
