  • Marion County farmers win Kentucky Corn Yield Contest

    Pioneer Hi-Bred, a DuPont business, congratulates David Peterson and Albert Peterson of Peterson Farms in Marion County for being among the winners in the 2011 Kentucky Extension Corn Yield Contest.
    In the conventional category, David Peterson of Peterson Farms of Marion County had the second place entry with 265.97 bushels per acre with Pioneer® hybrid 32T16.

  • Aquaculture workshop covers basics and then some

    For those interested in dipping their toes into aquaculture, Kentucky Cooperative Extension will offer a workshop, Aquaculture Basics, on Saturday, March 10, at the Kentucky State University Aquaculture Research Center in Frankfort.
    Welcome and sign-in will begin at 8:15 a.m. EST, and presentations will start at 8:30 and continue until noon.

  • Farm, Home and Garden Show is set for April 14, 15

    The Marion County Chamber of Commerce’s 25th annual Farm, Home and Garden Show is scheduled for Saturday, April 14 and Sunday April 15. The show will feature displays of nursery and landscaping, agriculture and livestock exhibits, outside and inside home use products, activities for children and educational seminars.  The hours of the show are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The show is free.

  • Winners are announced in second annual quilt show

    The Marion County Extension Homemaker Association held the second annual Kentucky Bluegrass Quilt Show in conjunction with the Kentucky Bluegrass Music Kickoff on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Marion County High School. The show was more than a success with 81 quilts entered into the show and over 200 people in attendance. Along with the Grand Champion money winners, below are the categorical winners:

    Calvary Congress
    The Calvary Congress 4-H Club met in Ms. Parman’s 5th grade class at Calvary Elementary on Nov. 11, 2011. To start things off, Santana Alvarez, vice-president, lead the 4-H pledge. The Calvary Congress is ready for Thanksgiving! As the club presented their program, we tried to get their class into the Thanksgiving spirit. After the presentation they began talking about Election Day. As we closed up our meeting, two members of our club, Jaxon Wheatley and Travis Wiser, both motioned for the meeting to be adjourned.
