For burley tobacco producers in central Kentucky it already looks like 2011 will prove to be another interesting year as far as marketing of the crop goes.  As of right now, for the most part I’ve been hearing pretty optimistic opinions in regards to this year’s crop. Many of our burley tobacco producers seem to be receiving similar contract values as they had last year, while some producers are also receiving an increase in contract pounds this year.

Kim Jones, a local dairy farmer from Loretto, recently attended the Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. Mideast Area Young Cooperator  Conference in Newark, Ohio. Jones was among more than 100 DFA members who attended the conference.
Jones, a third-generation farmer, milks 130 Holstein cows on 400 acres with her husband, Tim.
At the conference, Jones attended a variety of presentations. Jones also had the opportunity to tour Kroger Co.’s Tamarack plant in Newark to view the process milk undergoes after leaving the dairy.
