    Here are some good recipes for my vegetarian friends. If you're not a meat-eater, you can find yourself without much of a choice at a typical hot dog-hamburger cookout. I always like to have two or three dishes everyone can eat.

    No, I don't mean the Bible, although I read it every day.
    But for now, I'm referring to the newspaper.
    "Ahh, the newspaper," you say. "You mean that old dinosaur of the printed era that's somehow managed to stay alive, despite its shrinking advertising revenue and a dwindling subscriber base?"
    Despite rumors of its demise, the newspaper is surviving and in some instances, thriving.

  • Jehovah's Witnesses feel that all, including non-Witnesses, will benefit from the positive message and practical suggestions that will be highlighted at the 2012 "Safeguard Your Heart!" District Convention to be held for the first time at the Hooper Eblen Center on the campus of Tennessee Tech.

  • Bible school
    Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Gravel Switch will have their Vacation Bible School June 20-22 from 6-8:30 p.m. nightly and Sunday, June 24, at 11 a.m. during the morning worship service.     Clydeen Campbell and Jerry Hardwick announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Sara Hardwick, to Terry Mays Jr., son of Terry and Robin Mays.
    The wedding is set for 6 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, at the home of the grooms’ parents at 375 Sulphur Springs Road. A reception will follow the ceremony.
    No formal invitations have been sent. All friends and relatives are invited to attend.

  • Winners of the different activities during Old Mill Days June 8 and 9, 2012 were as follows:
    • Free throw contest- first place Zack Trailer,  second place Mary Bradshaw, and third place Mc Kenzie  Bagwell.
    • Old Mill Days parade- winner - float division-Perpetual Grace; tractor - Donnie Gribbins; car - Alton Hardin; motorcycle/atv exhibit - Red Metcalf of New Hope; and walking division - Virginia Philips and Dog “Bear” of Bristol, Tenn.

    Tuesday, June 19: Hot beef sandwich, mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli, congealed strawberry desert.

    Thursday, June 21: Brown bag.
    Friday, June 22: Country fried steak, mashed potatoes, baby lima beans, gravy, bread, strawberries.
