  • Summer revival
    New Life Community Church of God, 456 W. Chandler St., Lebanon, will have a summer revival, “The Revival That Brings New Life”. On Aug. 15 Bro. Steve of Arch of Mercy in Winchester will speak. On Aug. 16 Bro. Kenny Clay of Lexington will speak. On Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. Sister Brenda Douglas of Richmond will speak. This will be “Chick Night” or all ladies only night.

  • The annual Aliceton Camp meeting will be held Thursday, Aug. 16 through Sunday, Aug. 26, at the Aliceton Camp, 657 Wards Branch Road, Gravel Switch. Services will be at 7 p.m.

  • Larry and Jeanne Kirk of Marion, KY, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Samantha Jo Kirk, to Evan Michael Tate, son of Michael and Rita Tate of Hardinsburg.

  • Richard and Hattie Yocum of Lebanon announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Theresa Ann, to Michael Steven ëStevieí Calhoun, son of William Cowherd and Betty Calhoun, both of Lebanon.
    Yocum is a 1993 graduate of Washington County High School and a 2012 graduate of National College in Danville with a degree as a medical assistant. She is employed at TGKY.
    Calhoun is a 1996 graduate of Marion County High School and is employed at TGKY.

  • Kyle Lewis Purdom will celebrate his 4th birthday Aug. 7, 2012. He is the son of Kevin and Amy Purdom of Bradfordsville. Grandparents are Porter and Gloria Bright and Tony and Charlotte Purdom, all of Bradfordsville. He has one brother, Wesley.

  • Henry Howard "Cotton" Abell, 94, first started taking pictures when he was 10 years old. He won a kite-flying contest and the first prize was a box camera. He continued taking pictures until a few years ago due to macular degeneration. Cotton took most of the photos featured in Cotton's Corner, but his first cousin, Bill Abell, also took some. Bill gave Cotton his slides when he moved to Louisville in the 1950s. Some of the photos in Cotton's collection were also taken by Huley Browne. Browne's widow, Violet, gave Cotton his slides after he passed away.

  • In honor of World Breastfeeding Week Aug. 1-7, the Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH) is working to emphasize the importance of providing support for breastfeeding families. This message extends to fathers, family members, friends, employers and other key individuals who can play a role in the effort to build a supportive network for breastfeeding mothers.
