    James and Mareese Sanders Jr. announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Contessa Sanders, to Timothy Douglas, son of Donnie Johnson Sr. and Janette (Melvin) Porter.
    Sanders is a 2003 graduate of Marion County High School and is employed by Cornerstone To Learning.
    Douglas is employed by TGKY.
    The wedding will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Woodlawn Baptist Church, Lebanon. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony.
    Formal invitations have been sent.

    Brian and Traci Blanford of Lebanon announce the birth of their 7-pound son, Grayson Steven Blanford, born Jan. 5, 2013 at Flaget Memorial Hospital, Bardstown.
    Maternal grandparents are Marilyn Brown and David and Jeannie Brown, all of Louisville. Paternal grandparents are Steven and Carol Blanford of Holy Cross. Great-grandparents are Willie and Jessie Crume, Roy and Karen McGee, Pat and Hazel Lyvers, and Barry and Sandra Blanford.

    Travis Paul Mattingly celebrated his 5th birthday April 5, 2013. He is the son of Ashley Gootee and Chad A. Mattingly of Loretto.  Great-grandparents are Paul and Darnell Ruley and Rebecca Essex of Loretto and the late Gerald Essex.

  • The 2013 Kentucky Farm Bureau (KFB) “Farmer of the Year” application process is now open, and the organization is seeking the Commonwealth’s finest nominees for this prestigious award.
    Eligibility and guidelines are included with the application, and can be downloaded at kyfb.com/federation/. All applications must be postmarked by July 1.
    The winner will be announced at the organization’s 2013 state annual meeting in Louisville on Dec. 6.

    April 10, 1953
    15 tapped for duty

    Fifteen Marion County men, most of whom are 20 and 21 years of age, were ordered this week by the local Selective Service board to prepare for Army induction on April 21.
    Mrs. John D. Foote, clerk of the board, said an additional 15 are to be called for induction on April 28.
