  • Bradfordsville news

    The Bradfordsville Christmas Parade will be this Saturday, Dec. 4 at 3 p.m. Entries are to meet at the Bradfordsville Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m.
    The ham/turkey supper  will be at 4:30 p.m. Menu consists of turkey and/or ham, green beans, potatoes, dressing, slaw, cranberry sauce, rolls, drink and dessert. There is a cost for the meal.
    The Community Choir will perform a Christmas ensemble at 7 p.m. at the Bradfordsville Art Center. There is no admission.

  • Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

    The youth from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with the guidance of their parents and Dan Kelly, combine their talents with youth from other organizations and faiths to help strengthen the community.  Their talents include music, acting, and dance. They play Bluegrass, old country, modern pop, hymns, classical, and “old-timer” music.

  • Southern States annual meeting held in Virginia

    The 88th annual stockholder’s meeting of Southern States Cooperative was held Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the cooperative’s Richmond, Va. headquarters. Members of Southern States’ Board of Directors, stockholders and guests were given an overview of the cooperative’s performance during fiscal 2010, which ended in June.

    I guess my first order of business is to update everyone on our Boxer, Chanler’s progress. He is doing wonderful. He has gained a lot of much needed weight!

  • Serve pumpkin cheesecake for holiday dessert

    This wonderful pumpkin cheesecake will take the place of pumpkin pie at my Thanksgiving table this year. I’m a real cheesecake lover, and this is a good one for any time of year. Besides, I’ve never been able to make pies as good as my mother or grandmother did. My grandma Dillon made excellent pies, and pumpkin was one of her favorites. She started with a fresh pumpkin (no canned pumpkin for her!)

  • Cranberry bogs bring in the harvest

    Did you know that the cranberry used to be called the “craneberry?”
    When the colonists first learned of this berry from their American Indian hosts in the New World they thought the blooms of the native shrub looked liked the long neck and bill of the crane.
    Eventually, as language goes, it was shortened to cranberry.

  • Annual meeting is Dec. 1-4

    More than 1,300 Kentucky Farm Bureau members from across the state will gather for the organization’s 91st annual meeting Dec. 1-4 at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville. Delegates from all of Kentucky’s 120 counties will assemble for the four-day event to participate in committee meetings, business sessions, award presentations, officer elections and to finalize 2011 priority issues and policy revisions.

    It is the season for thankfulness but I often wonder why we need a season or holiday to remind us about all the good things we have?
    We have so much more in this country than most of the rest of the world but yet we need to be reminded of it on a yearly basis. Is it that we are spoiled?
    Or, is it that we work so hard year round to get the things that we are continually told we need.
    Or, is it that our neighbors have something we think we need?
