    Some idiot at Versailles describing himself as “James Jeff” sent us a few weeks ago a notice of death of Mr. and Mrs. Ed M. Elder, which we inserted, supposing it to be correct. It turns out that Mr. Elder is alive and well. It was a very poor joke and has caused Mr. Elder’s relatives considerable trouble.
    One of the most intricate questions with which the human mind has to grapple is to consider what such beings as the so-called “Jeff” were created for.

  • Revival
    First Baptist Church on N. Depot Street will be having their annual Spring Musical to kick off their Spring Revival. It will start at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 6 with music from the male, senior, solos and youth choirs. Refreshments served after the musical.   • Amid reports that the economy is recovering slower than many would like and that too many Kentuckians aren’t as healthy as they should be, it would be nice if there was something that could help with both of those issues.
    Fortunately, there is.
    Gardening, and more specifically, container gardening, is a way almost anyone can have healthy foods for a fraction of the cost of buying them at the store.

  • If you are looking for some recipes to use your garden fresh vegetables, Susan Spicer offered a few examples from “Susan’s Kitchen.”

    Mexican Rice
    2 T. butter or margarine
    1 large onion, chopped
    1 green peppers, chopped
    2 cloves of garlic, minced
    1 cup uncooked rice
    1 tomato, peeled and chopped
    2 cups of chicken broth
    1 t. cumin
    Salt to taste

  • The Marion County Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Heart of Kentucky Farm, Home and Garden Show at 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday April 6, and from 11 a.m. to 4 pm., Sunday, April 7.
    Katlin Schwartz with the Kentucky Beef Council will hold a cooking display at 1 p.m. on Saturday. On Sunday, singer Allison Stafford will be performing from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
