    Bicycle trip

    That Lester and James Spalding, sons of Mr. and Mrs. B.G. Spalding, were in Louisville Tuesday is scarcely news. But when they made the round trip all in one day on bicycle’s, that’s news that makes one’s legs ache to think about.
    During the course of the 134-mile jaunt, they occasionally stopped for a sandwich and soft drink, commenting that the trip wasn’t such a tough one. “Besides,” one of them added, “muscle is cheaper than gasoline.”

  • Contemplative Outreach
    Contemplative Outreach of Kentucky is hosting an introduction to centering prayer workshop at St. Catharine Motherhouse (near Springfield) Saturday, Aug. 27, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. This opportunity is for individuals who want to grow deeper into their prayer and awareness of God living within us.
    There are four instructional sessions and two practice periods, time for questions and books available for sale.

  • For 24 years, nearly 600 women across Appalachia have been learning they have the strength and courage to finish their education and to build the self-esteem they need to find their potential.   At no cost to them, women who find themselves in transition and are seeking to be inspired and build their confidence are doing just that through the New Opportunity School for Women (NOSW) in Berea.

    Charles Luckett of Gravel Switch and Melinda Dennis of Harrodsburg announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Debra Luckett, to Blair Francis, son of Al Francis of Lafayette, LA and Phelisa Boyance of New Iberia, LA.
    The wedding will be held at 6 p.m. today, Aug. 17, 2011, at Abundant Harvest Community Church, Bradfordsville. A reception will follow at VFW Post 5910, Lebanon.

  • Ashley and Andy Sullivan of Gravel Switch announce the birth of an 8-pound, 9.8-ounce son, Jaxon Emmitt Sullivan, born Aug. 4, 2011, at Spring View Hospital, Lebanon.
    Maternal grandparents are Sandy Logue of Harrodsburg and Todd Lanham of Lebanon.
    Paternal grandparents are Tammy Sullivan and John Henry Garrett, both of Calvary.
    Great-grandparents are the late John and Faye Sullivan and the late James and Jerel Sue Lanham, all of Gravel Switch, and the late Mayron and Tina Logue of Harrodsburg.

    The descendents of George Washington and Edna Robinson Abell will hold their annual reunion at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at the V.F.W. home located on Veterans Drive. Bring enough food and drinks for your family.

    Mullins
    The 60 annual Mullins reunion will be held Saturday, Sept. 3, at Graham Memorial Park. A potluck meal will start at 12:30 p.m. at the pavilion by the pool. “The Old Time Band” will be playing. For more information email mullinsreunion@yahoo.com.
