  • Contemplative Prayer Day
    St. Catharine Motherhouse (Hwy #150 west of Springfield) will hold its monthly Contemplative Prayer Day from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday,  March 19. The day includes centering prayer, meditative walks, silence, a presentation on “Mysticism as Growth in Human Consciousness” by Sr. Marilyn King, RSM  discussion on the presentation, personal prayer and a blessing. Bring bag lunch.  Drinks provided.

  • Kentucky law designates Feb. 15 through April 30 as spring forest fire hazard season. During this time, it is illegal to burn anything within 150 feet of any woodland or brushland between the daylight hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
    The law is intended to prevent forest fires by allowing outdoor burning only after 6 p.m. when conditions are less likely to cause a wildfire to spread.

    More than 100 citizens of Bradfordsville, including many leading businessmen and farmers, attended a mass meeting held at the Christian Church there Friday and entered a protest against the establishing of a liquor dispensary within the corporate limits of the town.

  • The Kentucky Cancer Program District Cancer Council is launching a public awareness campaign to increase colon cancer screening with “Dress in Blue Day” on Friday, March 4. Council partners are joining organizations, businesses, schools and churches throughout the community to encourage everyone to wear blue. Activities will continue throughout the year to provide education and special programs.

    Robert and Shirley Lynch celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Feb. 10, 2011, at a reception for their family at their home.
    The Lynches were married on Feb. 10, 1961, in Louisville by Rev. Tom Devinie.
    Mr. Lynch is semi retired from Southern States. Mrs. Lynch is the former Shirley Powell and retired from Lebanon Baptist Church.
    The couple has three children, Robbie Lynch of Bloomfield, Pam Mullins of Bradfordsville and Tonya Helms of Lebanon. They also have 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

  • Burchell
    Steven and Kelley Burchell of Lexington announce the birth of an 8-pound, 6-ounce son, Camden Michael Burchell, born Feb. 7, 2011, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.
    Grandparents are Larry and Dale Burchell of Campbellsville and Mike and Candy Barber of Lexington. Great-grandparents are Ada Thompson of Loretto and Beulah Burchell of Bradfordsville.
