  • With another meatless Friday coming up, here are some great seafood appetizers that will make you forget all about dinner! I love stuff like this, so I really enjoyed trying these recipes out. SOMEBODY’S got to do it, right?
    The Shrimp Mold is a very old recipe. I remember seeing something like it at one of my grandma Ruth’s card parties. The recipe says to make it with canned shrimp (though any kind will do.) Back in Illinois in the 50s, canned shrimp was the only kind we could get.

  • On March 17, 15 FFA members traveled to Elizabethtown Community College to compete in the annual Lincoln Trail Region FFA Day.  
    This allows students to showcase their skills in a variety of speaking contests and parliamentary procedure.  
    As a result of their efforts, two members advanced to state competition at the Kentucky FFA State Convention in Lexington on June 7.
    The two members that will advance to state are: Cody Rakes - Crop Impromptu - Superior 1st; Paige Hardin - Dairy Impromptu - Superior 2nd.  

  • A total of $870,349 is now being distributed to borrowers of Central Kentucky Ag Credit throughout the Bluegrass Region. Jim Caldwell, president and CEO of the major financial cooperative, has confirmed that the patronage distribution is 58 percent larger than last year.

  • Andrew and Margaret Grundy celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past week with family and a few close friends.
    Mrs. Grundy is the former Margaret Carter LaRue.
    The couple was married April 7, 1951, at Lebanon United Methodist Church.

    Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Patrick Portman of Bards-town will celebrate their 50-year anniversary Friday, April 15, 2011. Shirley is the former Shirley Faye Nally of Loretto.
    The couple was married at Holy Cross Church April 15, 1961.
    They have three children, Joe Portman, Suzanne Farnsworth and Faye Brussell; and seven grandchildren.
    A party, attended by many friends and family members, was held in their honor at The Loft in Bardstown on April 9.

    Billy and Kim Caldwell of Lebanon announce the birth of a 3-pound, 13-ounce daughter, Isabella Lea Caldwell, born Dec. 1, 2010, at Norton Hospital, Louisville.
    Maternal grandparents are Robert and Lana Purdom.
    Paternal grandparents are Billy and Marian Caldwell.
    Great-grandparents are Junior and Jeanne Buckler of Lebanon, Odele Caldwell, the late Bluebo Caldwell, the late William and Inez Purdom and the late Edward and Evelyn Jarboe.
    Isabella Lea has one sister, Abigail Mae.
