  • The third week of September is harvest time across much of America. Kentucky Farm Bureau is urging motorists to slow down and watch for slow moving farm equipment during the harvest season.
    Motorists should keep a safe distance when following farm equipment, using caution when passing and being patient with farmers, who must survey the road shoulder conditions before pulling over.


  • New Pioneers for a Sustainable Future will host a public rally in Springfield to coincide with the historic address to a joint session of Congress by Pope Francis next week. Francis is widely expected to urge national and world leaders to act decisively on climate change at the United Nations Conference that begins in Paris on Nov. 30 of this year and ends on Dec. 11.


  • Tickets are on sale now for Barktown Rescue’s major fundraiser, the 2nd Annual Bark Bash, to be held Saturday, Oct. 24, from 7 p.m.- midnight, at Bardstown Country Club at Maywood.
    Silver sponsor, Jim Beam, Booker Noe Plant, Boston, and a host of other local businesses and artists have generously donated money and items toward the success of this year’s Bark Bash and silent auction. This year, talented bakers are contributing delicious homemade confections for a “Dessert Dash” following dinner.

  • Dominican Sister of Peace Claire McGowan from Springfield was awarded the 2015 Friend of Community Development award from the Community Development Society, an international organization of educators and practitioners. The award recognizes her exemplary work in environmental sustainability, citizen participation, high visibility and advancing the community development field.


    Evelyn Danielle Lucas turned two years old on Aug. 5, 2015. She is the daughter of Daniel and Tracy Heistand Lucas of Knifley.
    Her grandparents are Sue and Ronnie Clarkston of Knifley and Thomas Heistand of Lebanon and the late Evelyn “Deanie” Heistand.

    Friday, Sept. 25: Barbecue chicken, corn, marinated cucumbers, tomatoes and onions, watermelon and whole wheat bread.
