Zakius Newby, son of Mark and Paula Newby, is the 16th recipient of a Project Lifesaver bracelet. The bracelet was given to Zakius by the Working the Puzzle for Autism, Inc., from proceeds from the annual Autism Walk. These devices help to track individuals with autism that may be subject to wandering. Over the last year and a half, Working the Puzzle for Autism, Inc., has placed 15 children in Marion County with the bracelets and one child in Washington County. These devices are crucial in locating individuals that may be lost and expedites the recovery time dramatically. Working the Puzzle for Autism, Inc., works in conjunction with the Marion County Rescue Squad and Marion County Fiscal Court to place people with the bracelets. If you know of anyone with autism that may benefit from the placement of these bracelets please have them contact Lisa Nally-Martin at (270) 699-2697 or Gary Luce at (270) 402-3080. Working the Puzzle for Autism, Inc., will pay for the bracelets for persons with autism and it will be the family’s responsibility thereafter to pay the $10 monthly fee for the replacement of the battery. These devices were originally made for people with Alzheimer’s. They are also available in this county for individuals with Alzheimer’s, however the family would be responsible for payment of the bracelets for those individuals. This is a valuable asset to the people of Marion County.
