Tornado touches down in Marion

Strong winds, heavy rain and a confirmed EF-1 tornado slammed Marion County on Friday night, mostly damaging trees and personal property. There were no serious injuries.
Marion County Emergency Management Director Laurie Heckel was expecting a final report from the National Weather Service at press time.
Large trees were uprooted and split in two, some of them landing on houses, outbuildings and vehicles. A part of the roof of an airport hangar was ripped loose. While warnings were issued well in advance, some were surprised at the intensity of the winds.
