  • Making small deposits

    It’s zero degrees outside but that doesn’t keep Dallas Robinson from sweating. Steam rolls off his body and his heart pounds as he stands ready to push the bobsled into motion with his other teammates. He knows he could die. It’s happened to other athletes in the past. After all, he’s about to get on a sled that will reach up to 95 miles per hour and he’s wearing limited protective gear. He could be ejected. The sled could flip over. But all he’s thinking about is the push.

  • Kroll, Young, and Hendricks receive promotions
  • Hamilton, Newby, and Newton receive scholarships

    St. Peter Claver Ladies #373 of St. Augustine Church in Lebanon recently awarded some local scholarships. Kelsey Hamilton received $250, Jarie Newby, $250 and Megan Newton, $500. Various donations to the group make these scholarships possible.

  • Rotary Club hosts ‘New Teacher Breakfast’
  • Sure Shots visit Adair Co., prepare for state shoot

    On Aug. 6, the following members of the Marion County 4-H Sure Shots participated in the Adair County 4-H Shoot: McKenzie Bagwell, Nathan Bagwell, Ty Barker, Jacob Benningfield, Preston Essex, Zachary Essex, Elissa Turpin, Elijah Turpin, Zach Trailor, Evan Wheatley, and Makayla Yates.
    Receiving awards were: Elijah Turpin in Blackpowder Pistol, 15-18 age group received 2nd, Elijah also received 2nd in the Blackpowder Flintlock 15-18 age group.  Elissa Turpin brought home 3rd in 22 Pistol in the 12-14 age group.

  • More than 2,000 children participate in summer programs

    Marion County Public Schools are in full swing after a very busy summer jam-packed with programs for students, as well as a countywide Dream Bus tour.
    MCPS Federal Programs Director Todd Farmer proudly shared some statistics regarding the district’s Summer Dream Academy and Dream Bus during the school board’s regular monthly meeting Aug. 11.  

  • Two MCHS seniors reflect on their GSP experiences

    Over the summer, 1,060 high school students representing 118 counties spent five weeks participating in the in the Governor’s Scholars Program. Two of them were Marion County High School seniors Caroline Reed and Sophie Clark.
    GSP started in 1983 because Kentucky leaders wanted to help keep the state’s "best and brightest" to pursue educational and career opportunities in the Commonwealth. Students selected for the program attend without charge.
