  • MCPS School Bus Maintenance Director to retire after 44 years

    As of December, a maintenance director here known to some as the “godfather of transportation” in the state will retire, or “step down,” as he prefers to think of it, after 44 years of service.
    Ricky Courtwright, the director of vehicle maintenance at Marion County Public Schools, started out as a maintenance technician while he was still in high school. Working on cars had always come naturally to him, since it runs in the family.

  • MCPS preschool programs receive 5-star rating

    All three of Marion County Public School’s preschool programs have received a 5-star rating -- the highest possible score -- based on Kentucky’s ALL STAR quality rating system. MCPS has preschool classrooms at Glasscock Elementary, Lebanon Elementary and West Marion Elementary.
    This comes on the heels of some other good news for early learning programs in the district.

  • Lebanon Elementary's Reading Celebration

    Lebanon Elementary held a special reading celebration on Aug. 18. Students were required to read at least six books over the summer and keep a reading journal to attend the celebration. They received a t-shirt, sunglasses, snacks and time on the playground. The top readers were recognized.
