• Marion County schools are closed today

    Marion County schools are closed today, Wednesday, March 6.

    Marion County Superintendent Chuck Hamilton announced that local schools are closed due to poor road conditions and slick parking lots.

    The Marion County Public Library will open at 11:30 a.m. Children's programs for today have been cancelled, however.

    Library patrons are advised to be aware that icy spots remain in the parking lot at the rear of the building.

  • Art students win several awards at region

    Marion County High School art students recently competed in the Caveland Regional Art Competition with seven other high schools. Competing schools include Taylor, Washington, South Warren, Warren Central, Adair and Grayson County high schools.
    Marion County earned seven awards, including three students’ works that will be advancing to state competition.
    The following students received awards:
    • Emily Clark, first place, ceramics
    • Johanna Leake, first place, painting and third place, printmaking

  • Tech center offers opportunities for students

    As students begin to think about scheduling for the next school year, parents and high school students should consider the programs at the Marion County Area Technology Center.  The primary goal of the MCATC is to enhance career exploration options for secondary students and to provide technical skills training that lead to successful post high school transition.  Students are provided the opportunity for transition into advanced programs, development of employability, readiness and leadership skills while incorporating practical application of academic skills.

    Tuesday, March 12: Granola breakfast cookie and two toast or assorted cereal and two toast, fruit cocktail, variety of juice, milk.
    Wednesday, March 13: Scrambled eggs and two toast or assorted cereal and two toast, grape cluster, variety of juice, milk.
    Thursday, March 14: Milk gravy and biscuit or cereal and toast, variety of juice, milk.

  • Scholarships available to high school students

    • Central Kentucky Community Action will again offer educational awards for graduating high school seniors and GED recipients in our eight county service area.
    These educational awards will be given in the form of Scholarships to assist with tuition while attending a four-year college, a two-year college, or a technical school.

  • Junior Mister is March 23

    The 8th annual Marion County High School Beta Junior Mister competition will be at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 23, in the MCHS gymnasium.
    This year's theme is "The Rock of Ages" and features all of the great hair band music of the 1970s and 80s. There are 22 young men in the show this year, which is the largest program to date.

  • Girls’ Sweet 16 could impact school calendar

    The Marion County Board of Education will be approving some amendments to the school calendar next week, which could include a day off school for the KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 basketball tournament.
    Marion County Superintendent Dr. Chuck Hamilton recommended to the board during its Feb. 26 meeting to dismiss school if the Marion County High School Lady Knights make it the second round of the state tourney.
