• School board applauds recent test scores

    Members of the Marion County School Board of Education literally broke out into applause when hearing the latest test scores for both local middle schools and Marion County High School during their meeting last week.

    In September, all eighth grade students at St. Charles Middle School and Lebanon Middle School took the EXPLORE exam, which is the first part of a testing system that also includes the PLAN and the ACT. All three test students in English, math, reading and science.

  • McKay joins WKU Athletic staff

    Zack McKay of Lebanon has been hired as the director of athletic marketing at Western Kentucky University. McKay, a 2003 Marion County High School graduate, is the son of Josh and Helen McKay and the grandson of Louise McKay. McKay comes to WKU after spending the previous four years as the Director of Marketing with Nelligan Sports Marketing at IPFW University. McKay got his start in intercollegiate athletics as a marketing assistant at the University of Louisville, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Administration in 2007.

  • Spalding is assistant professor of education at Campbellsville University

    Deborah Allen Spalding of Lebanon has been employed at Campbellsville University as an assistant professor of education, according to an announcement from Dr. Michael V. Carter, president of Campbellsville University.

  • Marion Co. FFA/Teen Leadership participate in annual farm tour

    On Tuesday, Oct. 2, Marion County FFA members and members of Teen Leadership Marion County traveled to four farms across Marion County to learn more about agriculture.  The locations traveled to were: Sandusky Beef Farm/Miracle Man Cattle Co. owned by David and Michael Sandusky, Two Toms pheasants and chukars owned by Tom Corbett Sr. and Tom Corbett Jr., Peterson Family Farm owned by Donnie and Theresa Peterson, and Jones Family Dairy Farm owned by Timmy and Kim Jones.

    “Maybe we’ll jump out of an airplane,” I said, as we drove down Highway 15. Now that I’d zip-lined, I was a fitness expert.

    “Maybe we’ll jump rope instead,” Chloe suggested.

    “We’ll know soon,” Dad said, turning onto Tunnel Ridge Road. We saw a man leaning up against an Army Jeep. Dad rolled down the window. “You must be Pete.”

    Pete smiled, shook Dad’s hand and said, “Follow me, folks.”

    Seconds later we pulled into our destination.
