  • MCATC hires new principal

    Tuesday was Brandon Bardin's first official day as the new principal at the Marion County Area Technology Center.
    Bardin, a Columbia native, has spent the last 12 years being a welding instructor at the Green County Area Technology Center. But, he said he wanted to help students and staff from a different perspective, which is why he applied for the MCATC principal position after Tony Webb, who was hired in September of last year, resigned to become the principal at the Harrodsburg Area Technology Center.

  • Skype sessions enhance lessons for students

    Several local students had a classroom experience that spanned the globe Friday. By utilizing Skype and Smart Boards, students were able to have live conversations with active-duty military personnel stationed in Afghanistan.
    Some of Coury Osbourne's students at Marion County High School and students in Lesli Van Why's class at Calvary Elementary School participated in the Skype sessions with a pair of sailors.
    Two of Osbourne's classes spoke with Yeoman First Class Ruth Adams, a U.S. Navy reservist.

  • Senior Planning Night is Sept. 11

    Senior Planning Night will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Marion County High School Library.
    Jo Newton, the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) Outreach Counselor for Marion County, will share free planning and student financial aid information for seniors planning to attend school after graduation.
    Students and parents will learn about online KEES accounts, as well as grants, scholarships, work-study, savings and Federal Direct Loans.

  • Whitlock makes dean’s list

    Dave Whitlock of Lebanon has been named to the dean’s list for the winter/spring term at Centre College, an honor reserved for students who maintain at least a 3.60 grade point average.
    Whitlock is the son of David and Lori Whitlock of Lebanon and is a graduate of Marion County High School.
