  • November brings holiday surprise for teachers

    Alice Wheatley, a teacher at Lebanon Middle School, and Kandice Spalding, a teacher at St. Charles Middle School, have much more joy than usual to share with their students this holiday season. Wheatley and Spalding are the recipients of $500 2010 MAC Grants from McDonald’s Restaurants of Kentuckiana.

    Students at Lebanon Middle School have embraced Wreaths Across America as a way to honor the veterans in our community. 

    "We wouldn't have anything without them," said Allie Evans, a seventh-grader at LMS.

  • Schools save over $190,000 in energy costs

    Marion County Schools has made a positive contribution to the environment while improving the quality of education for students.
    From 2006-10 the school district has saved $192,000 in energy costs and reduced annual greenhouse gas emissions by 3,051 tons. This is the equivalent of:
    · 660 cars not driven for one year
    · 7,095 barrels of oil not burned
    · 392 household’s electricity use for one year
    · 25 acres of forest saved from deforestation
    · And saving more than $192,224 in energy costs

    Through support of local business and industry, the Marion County Area Technology Center recognizes outstanding students by a Student of the Month Program. Every month, one student from each of the 10 program areas is recognized for outstanding academic achievement, good attendance, strong work ethic and/or class participation.
    Spring View Hospital was November Student of the Month sponsor. Recipients had lunch and took a tour Nov. 19 with Lisa Eubank.
    The following students displayed outstanding achievement within the field of career and technical education.
