  • School board to hold special-called meeting on Friday

    The Marion County Board of Education has scheduled a special-called meeting for 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at the Board of Education office.

    The agenda for the meeting is as follows:

    I. Call to Order

    II. Pledge of Allegiance/Moment of Silence

    III. Student Support Services

    -Approval of Initial BG-1 for the Guaranteed Energy Savings Contract

  • 2-15-18 Writing Spotlight

     

    Marion County Public Schools will be featuring a student “Writing Spotlight” each week. Student writing samples from the on demand assessment grades (fifth, sixth, eighth, 10th and 11th) will be published to showcase students’ work. On an on demand writing assessment, students are given a particular situation and they respond to a writing task.

    Monday, Feb. 23 - Pancake and sausage on a stick with maple syrup and toast or cereal and toast, strawberry cup, apple, juice and milk
    Tuesday, Feb. 24 - Granola breakfast cookie and toast or cereal and toast, pear slices, grape clusters, juice and milk
    Wednesday, Feb. 25 - Scrambled Eggs and toast or assorted cereal and toast, peach cup, pineapple, juice and milk

  • Illness within MCPS

    Members of the community have been concerned about the low attendance due to recent illnesses affecting schools throughout the district.

    “It was on the west end of the county and now it’s moved to this [east] end of the county. Our high school actually has the poorest attendance right now, but we still have some elementary schools that are at 94 percent,” Superintendent Taylora Schlosser said during the Feb. 12 Marion County Board of Education meeting.

  • Feb. 16 school board meeting has been cancelled

    The Marion County Board of Education was scheduled to hold a special-called meeting at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16. That meeting has been cancelled due to the weather and road conditions.

    The meeting will be rescheduled as soon as possible, according to district officials.

  • Kindergarten registration is Feb. 20

    Marion County Public Schools kindergarten registration will be held at all elementary schools on Friday, Feb. 20, between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m.
    Registration paperwork will be at the elementary school in the district in which you reside. Children who will be five years old on or before Oct. 1, should register for kindergarten classes. Students who are currently enrolled in the four-year-old preschool program should also register for kindergarten.
    To register you must bring the following documentation:
    • Proof of residence in the form of a utility bill

  • Local students earn degrees from WKU

    The following local Western Kentucky University students earned degrees at the December 2014 Commencement Ceremonies: John A. Browning, bachelor of arts; Evan A. Carter, bachelor of science; and Kaycee L. Hill, bachelor of arts.
