  • PSAT test will be administered on Oct. 16

    The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT. It also gives students a chance to enter the NMSC scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools.  The PSAT measures the skills your student has developed over the course of his education. These include:
    • Critical reading skills
    • Math problem-solving skills
    • Writing skills

  • St. Catharine College will host sixth annual celebration of freedom to read

    Faculty, staff and students from St. Catharine College will gather in front of the new Emily W. Hundley Library on Sept. 24 and 25 to read from books they love that have been banned. Members of the public are invited to attend or participate, as well.
    On Sept. 24, a cookout will be provided by Student Services. Banned Books Week t-shirts will also be on sale both days of the event. Banned Books Week is a national celebration. More information about the event can be found at ala.org.

    Tuesday, Sept. 24: Bacon, egg muffin sandwich and toast or assorted cereal and toast, fruit cocktail, variety of juice, milk.
    Wednesday, Sept. 25: Whole grain chocolate chip muffin and toast or assorted cereal and toast, strawberries, variety of juice, milk.
    Thursday, Sept. 26: Sausage breakfast pizza and toast or assorted cereal and toast, orange wedges, variety of juice, milk.

  • Learning, together

    Jacob Marcum, 4, finished a puzzle that required him to put numbered pieces in order. He then turned to his mother, Lisa Smothers.
    “I like staying here,” he told her.
    “Here” is the Marion County Public Library, and Jacob is part of a group of 3-5-year-olds who are participating in a free kindergarten readiness program for children who have not yet started school.
    Children’s Librarian Patty May Brown started the program.
