  • Twenty-six students earn AP Scholar Awards

    The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program® (AP®) provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. About 18 percent of the more than 1.9 million students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award.
    The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on students’ performance on AP Exams.

  • Orientation helps students get acquainted

     

    Ninety-seven freshmen filled the halls of Bethlehem High School on July 27 for freshmen orientation.  
    Students spent the afternoon getting acquainted with fellow freshmen, finding their classrooms, meeting their teachers, and enjoying time with the Bethlehem family.
    Later in the evening, parents joined their students for dinner and an information session. Aug. 3 saw the beginning of school with 321 students, the largest enrollment in recent years.

  • Marching Knights have a new band director

    The Marion County High School Marching Knights have been preparing for the upcoming band season for weeks, and due to unforeseen reasons, they now have a new band director.

    Former band director, Shane Mitchell, resigned July 29, and moved back home to Paris, Ky, this week for personal reasons.

    After interviewing five people for the position, the MCHS site-based decision making council hired Curtis Bennett, 29, of Scottsville on Thursday, Aug. 11.

  • Public hearing to be held Aug. 31 for school tax rates

    The 2011-12 school tax rates for real estate and personal property are likely to increase four percent, but county residents will have an opportunity to voice their opinions during a public hearing at the Marion County Board of Education Wednesday, Aug. 31.
