  • Superintendent unexpectedly announces retirement

    Almost two years to the day after Dr. Chuck Hamilton was hired to become the Marion County Superintendent, he unexpectedly announced his retirement Thursday evening, May 2.
    Hamilton’s announcement came during a special-called meeting at the Marion County Board of Education office. At 5 p.m., the board went into executive session to discuss personnel under KRS 61.810(1)(f).
    The closed session lasted only two minutes and the board reconvened into open session and unanimously accepted Hamilton’s retirement, effective June 30.

  • Superintendent search has begun

    The Marion County Board of Education took its first few steps toward searching for a new superintendent during a special-called meeting Tuesday night, May 7.
    Dr. Chuck Hamilton unexpectedly announced his retirement Thursday evening, May 2.
    Board Attorney Joe Mattingly informed the board that it had until May 31 to establish a screening committee. He also told board members that they must decide whether they want to hire a special search consultant, such as the Kentucky School Boards Association, or complete the search process in-house.

    The Marion County Board of Education has scheduled a special-called meeting at 5:30 tonight, May 7, at the board office, 755 E. Main Street in Lebanon.

    The agenda includes the following:

    - Pledge of Allegiance/moment of silence

    - Student learning and consent items

    - Minutes of the May 2 meeting

    - Superintendent search process

    - Executive session (if needed)

  • School board schedules special meeting today on personnel matter

    The Marion County Board of Education has scheduled a special-called meeting for 5 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at the board office, 755 E. Main Street in Lebanon.

    The agenda is short, including student learning and support consent items and an executive session to discuss personnel under KRS 61.810(1)(f).

    This provision allows the board to hold an executive session on matters that may lead to the appointment, discipline or dismissal of an employee, member or student. The law does allow the individual in question the right to hold a public hearing if requested. 

  • Annual FFA Awards banquet
  • Local student selected as delegate for conference

    Kristina Leake, a student at Marion County High School, has been selected to represent Kentucky as a National Youth Delegate to the 2013 Washington Youth Summit on the Environment at George Mason University.
    Leake joins a select group of 250 students from across the country to participate in an intensive study week-long of leadership in environmental science and conservation. Leake was chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest and excellence in leadership in the sciences and conservation studies.
