  • New student council members are announced

    Marion County High School’s student council members have been named for the 2012-13 academic year.
    They are as follows: President Hannah Wilson, Vice President Charles Shofner, and Secretary Madison Avritt.
    Junior members are: Brooklyn Russell, Dylan Tungate, Nicole Mattingly, and Sarah Morris.
    Sophomore members are: Alex Espinosa, Stephanie Farmer, and Taylor Scott.
    Freshmen members are: D.J. Price, John David May, and Justin Overstreet.

  • MCHS falls short on ACT scores

    ACT exam results show that Marion County High School students aren't taking the appropriate "core" courses before their junior and senior years and, as a result, they aren't fully prepared for college-level work.

    "One thing that has to be worked on is scheduling at the high school," Marion County Superintendent Dr. Chuck Hamilton said to school board members during their regular monthly meeting Tuesday of last week.

  • Board does not approve Lady Knights' basketball trips

    Approving trips and fundraisers is usually routine business at the Marion County Board of Education meetings, but it wasn't routine during its regular monthly meeting last week.

    When it was time to approve the overnight trips for the Lady Knights basketball team, Board Member Mike Cecil asked if there was a reason the paperwork was being turned in so early. The trips that were up for approval were trips to basketball tournaments in late December and January in Lexington, Mount Sterling and Louisville.

  • Divine, Farnham will be presenting at conference

    Glasscock Elementary educators LeeAnn Divine and Marilu Farnham will be presenting at the Kentucky Association of School Councils Annual Conference, Aim High:  Prepare for Success, which will be held Sept. 25-26, 2012, at the Marriott downtown Louisville.

  • Record number of MCHS students attend GSP

    Eleven Marion County High School students were chosen to participate in the Governor's Scholars Program this summer. They are Madison Avritt, Morgan Avritt, Jacob Burdette, Brad Gootee, Abigail Hagan, Abby Hamilton, Mary Helen Hamilton, Haberlin Roberts, Charles Shofner, Lauren Thim and Hannah Wilson.

  • Elder makes dean’s list

    John Arthur Elder IV of Lebanon made the dean’s list during the winter term at the Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He is the son of Nancy and John Arthur Elder III of Lebanon.
