  • School board, superintendent screening committee to meet Thursday

    The Marion County Board of Education and the superintendent screening committee will meet together during a special-called meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at the board of education office, 755 E. Main Street in Lebanon.

    Mike Oder, a consultant with the Kentucky School Boards Association, will explain the role of the screening committee in the hiring process, and the school board will give its instruction to the committee members.

  • College grants available for adult students

    Adult Kentuckians who are interested in taking college classes may be eligible for a Go Higher Grant administered by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA).
    Go Higher Grants are available to adults age 24 or older who are enrolled in fewer than six credit hours at a participating Kentucky college or university. Applicants must show financial need. The maximum award amount is $1,000 and covers tuition plus a book allowance of $50 per credit hour.

    Craig O'Daniel has gained a new perspective on the world because of his participation in Project Lead the Way, a program designed to encourage students with an interest in science, technology, engineering and math.

    "I learned a lot about the design process, and how to look at everyday objects and think of ways to make them better," O'Daniel said.

    He was one of the eight Marion County High School students who recently completed the capstone project, which is considered the culmination of the program.

  • Student drug-testing meeting leads to questions galore

    Before a drug-testing program can be implemented at Marion County High School lots of questions need to be answered; the main one being who exactly is going to be drug-tested.

    The Drug Testing Implementation Committee began discussing that very issue during its first meeting Thursday at the Marion County Board of Education. While some school districts only test athletes, other schools test all students involved in extra-curricular activities, as well as students who drive to school.

  • Marion County Screening Committee to meet April 14

    The Superintendent Screening Committee for Marion County Public Schools will meet at 4:45 p.m. at the Marion County Board of Education.

    The committee consists of the following individuals:
