  • Leader in Me program celebrated at Calvary Elementary

    Calvary Elementary School Principal Sara Brady beamed as she looked out at her students in the sea of green T-shirts Friday morning.
    The school celebrated its first official year in the Leader in Me program with a series of programs and tours.
    “Proud doesn’t begin to touch how I feel today,” Brady said, addressing students, faculty and others in attendance for the event.

  • Celebrate reading

    Marion County Public Schools celebrated reading all week long last week. The annual community event was held on April 19 at Marion County High School. While most of the event centers around reading, event attendees also enjoyed a presentation by Kentucky author George Ella Lyon, a petting zoo, face painting, corn hole, a mini Marion County Country Ham Days Festival and a variety of foods. The event was attended by hundreds of students and their families.

    Last day of school
    The last day of school for Marion County Public School students is Friday, May 20. Marion County High School graduation will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 21. And, the closing day for staff will be Tuesday, May 24.

    Dream Bus
    The Dream Bus is scheduled to visit all schools prior to the end of the year. It’s also scheduled to be in neighborhoods throughout the summer. Information will be mailed home to families.

  • Governor Bevin signs CPR bill ensuring training for students

    Governor Matt Bevin signed Senate Bill 33 on Saturday, April 9, which will improve Kentuckians’ chances of surviving sudden cardiac arrest.
    Senate Bill 33, sponsored by Senator Max Wise from Campbellsville, ensures that Kentucky high school students receive basic CPR training as part of high school health education, physical education or Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps course that meets the physical education graduation requirement. The new law will take effect in the 2016-2017 school year, making Kentucky the 29th state to pass such a law.
