  • Lebanon City Council approves 2012-13 budget

    The Lebanon City Council held a pair of special-called meetings last week to approve the 2012-13 city budget.

    On Monday, June 25, the council voted 6-0 to approve the first reading of the budget. On Tuesday, June 26, the council approved the second reading, 4-0. Councilmen Jay Grundy and Jim Richardson were not present for the June 26 meeting.

  • George resigns as tourism commissioner

    Dennis George has stepped down from his seat on the Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission due to changes in his work schedule.

    George noted in his resignation letter to Lebanon Mayor Gary Crenshaw on June 26, that he was doing so with regret.

    "I have supported the commission from the outset and will continue to do so," George wrote to Crenshaw.

    George was a member of the Lebanon City Council who voted in favor of creating a tourism commission.

  • Fiscal court approves 2012-13 budget

    County officials are anticipating more than $14 million in revenue and expenditures during the 2012-13 fiscal year, according to the second reading of the proposed budget, which was approved at the June 21 Marion County Fiscal Court meeting.

  • Council approves tourism budget with no controversy

    It's been a year since the Lebanon City Council discussed eliminating the primary funding source for the Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission. Council members had a few questions related to the commission's proposed 2012-13 budget, but overall, the discussions were not contentious.

    At its June 11 meeting, the council unanimously approved the proposed tourism budget.

    The Marion County Industrial Foundation has given 1.756 acres of property to the Marion County Fiscal Court. This is the same property where the Marion County Fire Training Facility is located.

  • City council, tourist commission have meetings June 11

    The Lebanon City Council is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Monday, June 11.

    The city council is also scheduled to hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. regarding the motor fuels fund and the local government economic assistance fund. The regular meeting will follow the public hearing.

    The items on the agenda are as follows:

    - A delegation from Troy Mattingly to request a road block for The Way to Recovery, a treatment program for people with addictions of all types.

    - Minutes of the May 7 and May 31 city council meetings.

  • Fairground Road transfer station not accepting brush

    The Marion County Waste Transfer Station will not be accepting brush this week or next week, according to Marion County Solid Waste and Environmental Coordinator Keith Brock.
    During this time, contractor equipment will be on site to grind brush for waste-to-energy conversion.
    The transfer station will resume brush staging on June 18.

  • Mayor offers $8.8 million budget proposal

    Lebanon Mayor Gary Crenshaw has proposed an $8.8 million budget for the 2012-13 fiscal year. He delivered his annual budget address May 31 to the Lebanon City Council.

    "The budget process each year is a learning experience for those of us who work together to come up with the best way to allocate the city's resources," he said. "All of us involved in the process have our own ideas of what is needed or desired."
