  • Mills attends ag leaders summit

    State Representative Terry Mills, D-Lebanon, attended a national summit of agricultural and rural leaders from across the United States. The Legislative Agriculture Chairs Summit was held in Washington D.C.
    At the White House, summit participants met with U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and officials involved with farm services, rural development, food safety, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service. They also discussed international agricultural trade with Dr. Issi Siddiqui, the  U.S. Trade Representative for Agriculture.

  • Hear, hear

    Hemp, horses, House districts and H20 were among the issues discussed when Congressman Brett Guthrie visited Marion County last week.

    Guthrie stopped at the Marion County Extension Office Jan. 11 as part of a series of listening sessions he is holding throughout Kentucky's Second Congressional District.

    Guthrie opened with a short presentation complete with charts listing bills passed in the House but not the Senate, budget proposal comparisons and the increasing effect government programs are having on the budget.

  • County services affected by MLK holiday

    Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be celebrated Monday, Jan. 16. because this is a holiday for county employees, county services will be affected.

    There will be no garbage pick-up Monday. Instead, sanitation crews will run a double route on Tuesday. Residents are asked to put their trash out early on Tuesday for this reason.

    The Marion County Judge/Executive's Office will also be closed on Monday for the holiday.

  • City approves second reading of annexations

    The Lebanon City Council approved the second reading of three property annexations Monday evening.

    The properties are located at 985 Bradfordsville Highway, 915 Bradfordsville Highway, and in the right of way on Hwy. 49 on the city's northern boundary.

    The annexations will take effect upon official publication.

    Fiscal court approves additional redistricting funds

    The Marion County Fiscal Court has completed its plan to realign the magisterial districts based on the 2010 Census. Now, the county needs to adjust its precinct boundaries.

  • Board sets final deadline for demolition of Spragens' property

    After missing two deadlines to demolish his property located at 322 S. Proctor Knott Avenue in Lebanon, Frank Spragens has a final deadline of Jan. 25 to have the demolition complete. If not, the City of Lebanon will do it for him.

  • New tourism director has been hired

    The Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission has hired a new executive director.
    Nicky Reynolds of Oak Ridge, Tenn., has accepted the position, and the commission voted Monday evening to approve hiring Reynolds.
    The commissioners who were there voted unanimously in favor of the hire. Commissioner Dennis George had to leave the meeting prior to the vote due to another appointment.
    In a phone interview Monday evening, Reynolds, 33, said she has had a good experience in her interaction with the commission.

  • School board to meet Jan. 10

    The Marion County Board of Education is scheduled to meet in regular session at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at the board office, 755 E. Main Street in Lebanon.

    The agenda is as follows:

    - Proclamation by County Judge Executive John G. Mattingly 

    - T.J. Poliskie, school energy manager regarding Energy Star status for district schools

    The Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission is scheduled to meet in regular session at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, in room 300 at the Centre Square Convention Center.

    The agenda for the meeting includes the following items:

    - Kandice Engle-Gray to discuss the lease agreement with the City of Lebanon

    - Don Johnson regarding the Kentucky Baroque Trumpets
