    The Marion County Judicial Center officially opened Monday, Aug. 15.

    Marion County Judge/Executive John G. Mattingly said he believes the new facility will be very convenient for the public once everyone gets used to it and the new security measures that are in place.

  • Tourism commission begins search for new director

    The Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission will begin its search for a new director during a special-called meeting Tuesday, Aug. 16.

    On Monday, Aug. 8, Chris Hamilton told the commission that his final day as Lebanon's tourism director would be this Friday, Aug. 19. Hamilton has accepted an offer to become the executive director of the Aurora Area Convention and Visitors Bureau in Illinois.

  • Lebanon, Raywick will hold elections to fill vacancies

    Darin Spalding was appointed to the Lebanon City Council July 27, following Kenny Marrett's resignation from the council.

    At the time, city officials said they believed his appointment was for the remainder of Marrett's term.

  • City approves several noise variances

    The Lebanon City Council approved noise variances for Lebanon Baptist Church, Joe's Deli on Main, McB's, Chaser's, the Generation Gap and John Cowherd during a meeting Monday night.

    Most, but not all, of the variances were for Ham Days weekend.

    Joe's Deli and McB's received noise variances from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sept. 23, from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sept. 24 and from noon to 6 p.m. Sept. 25.

  • City approves second reading of parking ordinance

    Monday night, the city council unanimously approved the second reading of an ordinance prohibiting parking within 25 feet of the intersection of North Street and West High Street.

    The council also voted to prohibit parking on the north side ML King starting at Spalding Avenue and moving 300 feet toward Harrison Street. The purpose of this prohibition is to allow traffic flow on the road between the David R. Hourigan Government Building and the Marion County Judicial Center, which is scheduled to open Monday, Aug. 15.

  • County tax rates remain the same

    The Marion County Fiscal Court has decided to keep a few things the same, namely its tax rates.

    During its Aug. 4 meeting, the court voted unanimously to keep its 2011 tax rates the same as last year.

    The county's real estate tax rate will remain 8.6 cents per $100 of assessed value. The tangible tax rate and the vehicle property tax rate will both stay at 10.9 cents per $100 valuation.

  • Hamilton resigns as tourism director

    The Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission will be searching for a new executive director soon.

    Chris Hamilton announced Monday that he has accepted an offer to become the executive director of the Aurora Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. Aurora is a suburb of Chicago.

    Hamilton made his announcement at the end of the meeting of the Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission.

    The Lebanon City Council is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8.
