  • City alters proposed parking restrictions

    On July 11, the city council had planned to vote on the second reading of an ordinance prohibiting limiting parking 50 feet from the intersection of North Street and West High Street. Instead, the council held the first reading of a revised ordinance limiting parking within 25 feet of the intersection.

    Fannie Lambe and Sheila Wiser asked the council to reconsider the proposal. Lambe wrote a letter to the city, and Wiser addressed the council in person.

  • County receives Homeland Security grant

    Marion County has been approved for a $71,795 grant from Homeland Security.

    The Marion County Fiscal Court approved a budget amendment to include the grant funds during its July 7 meeting.

    That grant will be used to purchase portable radios and mobile data computers for emergency services, according to County Treasurer Kevin Cochran.

  • Ideas for local concert series, youth rally proposed

    A local deejay would like to bring a concert series to Lebanon, and a few local individuals, including the chairman of the Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission, would like to host a rally for Christ.

    Both are seeking assistance from the tourist commission.

    During the commission's July 11 meeting, Jeremy Bowman of Breakfast Boy Entertainment who has organized concerts in other places said he would like to host a series of concerts in Angelic Hall.

  • Local judge participates in HB 463 training

    Judge Amy S. Anderson who serves Marion, Green, Taylor and Washington counties, participated in a District Judges Seminar on June 3 about how district judges are to handle pretrial release and bond determinations based on House Bill 463, which took effect June 8. The AOC offered the seminar in Frankfort for all district judges and trial commissioners and circuit judges who share on-call rotations with district judges.

  • Tourism talks heat up with Lebanon City Council

    The ongoing dialogue about the future of tourism brought the Lebanon City Council face-to-face with the current chairman and past chairwoman of the Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission Monday evening.

    The conversation never boiled over, but it did heat up at times.

    Tourist commission chairman Dan Lawson and former chairwoman Carlotta Brussell addressed the council regarding the 14 suggestions it presented to the tourist commission.

  • Animal Control Officer fired

    Marion County Animal Control Officer Jeff Wooldridge was fired July 7 after the Marion County Fiscal Court spent an hour in an executive session.

    When the court returned to open session, it voted unanimously to terminate his employment with the county.

    "It's a sensitive personnel matter that I'm really not at liberty to discuss," Marion County Judge/Executive John G. Mattingly said following the July 7 meeting.

  • City council, tourist commission both meet Monday

    The Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission is scheduled to meet at 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 11, at the Centre Square Convention Center. This evening, the Lebanon City Council is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. at city hall.

    And the commission's chairman, Dan Lawson, and previous chairwoman, Carlotta Brussell, are on the agenda to meet with the city council Monday night.

  • St. Francis Post Office has been suspended

    "Services at the St. Francis Post Office have been emergency suspended" reads a notice posted July 7 on the door of the postal branch. 

    David Walton, a spokesman for the Kentuckiana district of the postal service, said he is not sure if the suspension will be lifted. However, he did say that the emergency suspension is not related to a planned study into whether the St. Francis branch would be closed.

  • Marion County animal control officer has been fired

    Marion County Animal Control Officer Jeff Wooldridge has been fired.

    The Marion County Fiscal Court voted unanimously to terminate Wooldridge during its July 7 meeting. The court's decision was made following an executive session that lasted nearly an hour.

  • High school site-based council meeting July 12

    The Marion County High School Site-Based Decision Making Council has scheduled a special-called meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, in the high school library.

    According to the agenda, the council will be conducting interviews for a special education position and the high school boys basketball coach.

    Assistant Principal Robby Peterson said these are two separate positions, but the council may hire one person if it finds someone who can fill both jobs.
