The Marion County Board of Education has scheduled a special-called meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, at the school board office, 755 E. Main Street in Lebanon.

The items on the agenda include student drug testing, the job description for director of pupil personnel and food services, goals for the new superintendent for the 2011-12 school year, and minutes of the previous school board meeting.

New Marion County Superintendent Chuck Hamilton officially took over the position July 1.

The City of Lebanon Recycling Center, located on Woodlawn Avenue, will now only be open Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. due to illegal dumping. 

City Administrator John Thomas said the city has had problems with dumping before, but it recent weeks it has become constant.

“Mostly on weekends, we would come in and the dumpster would be full of furniture, tires, pallets, waters heaters … you name it,” he said.

When Carter County Jailer R.W. Boggs thinks about his own jail, he said he'll often ask himself, "What would Barry do?"

Boggs is in his first term, and after he was elected he sought advice from Marion County Jailer Barry Brady. Based on his visits to the Marion County Detention Center and discussions with Brady, Boggs has made changes at his own facility.

"He inspires me with what he does," Boggs said. "Marion County would be crazy to ever get rid of that man."

The Lebanon City Council is scheduled to hold a special-called meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 28. There are two items on the agenda.

First, the council will consider the first reading of its amended 2010-11 budget. And third, the council will consider the first reading of its 2011-12 budget.
