  • Williams wins gubernatorial primary

    David L. Williams will be the Republican gubernatorial candidate in the fall.

    Williams, the Senate president, won the state with 68,528 votes. Phil Moffett, a Louisville businessman, was second in the Republican primary with 53,966 votes, and Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw was a distant third with 19,614 votes.

    Williams carried Marion County with 108 votes. Moffett received 77 votes, and Holsclaw collected 28 votes.

  • Lebanon mayor's budget address is Monday night

    The Lebanon City Council will meet in a special-session at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 23, at city hall.

    During the meeting, Mayor Gary Crenshaw will present his annual budget address. The council will also prioritize its suggestions for the Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission.

  • Stacey Hall chosen to lead MCHS

    About a year after its initial search, the Marion County High School Site-Based Decision Making Council has selected Stacey Hall as the school's next principal.

    Hall has worked at MCHS for the past five years. He is an assistant principal and the athletics director at the school.

    The five members of the site-based council voted unanimously to approve Hall to serve as the principal starting with the 2011-12 academic year. Martha Ann Mattingly recently resigned from the council.

    Hall will officially take over as principal on July 1.

  • MCHS site-based council meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday

    The Marion County High School Site-Based Decision Making Council is scheduled to have a special-called meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 22, in the high school library.

    The council is expected to announce the next high school principal during this meeting.

  • Fiscal court meets at 4 p.m. May 19

    The Marion County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at the David R. Hourigan Government Center.

    The agenda for the meeting is as follows:

    - Contract for AOCT use allowance for Court Square for Fiscal Year 2011-12

    - Bids for illegal/abandoned dump site clean up

    The Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission will meet in a special-called meeting at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18.

  • Nuisance property may be torn down

    Plans for the demolition of 322 S. Proctor Knott Avenue could be in the works.

    The property owner, Frank Spragens, has already paid more than $7,000 (on three separate properties) in fines for repeated violations of the city's nuisance property ordinance prior to the May 9 meeting of the Lebanon City Council.

    Lebanon City Building Inspector John Thompson told the council that he has received quotes between $9,000 and $25,000 to tear down the property.

  • Revised tourism budget approved

    The Lebanon City Council approved the revised 2010-11 budget for the Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission on May 9. The revised budget includes $12,000 for the Heart of Kentucky Bourbon and BBQ MusicFest, which will take place this weekend, May 20-21, in Lebanon.

    The commission, which also met May 9, received 2011-12 budget and planning recommendations from Executive Director Chris Hamilton. Under the budget recommendations, the commission is projected to receive $584,732 in revenue and to have $446,589.113 in expenses.
